Viennese Ball was amazing.

Night one was spent playing with trombone choir, learning how to waltz (courtesy of Mr.Randall D. Pingrey) socializing with people I didn't know all that well, and then eating some delicious food. After the ball, we headed over to The House, where I proceded to spend 3 hours in Phil's room trying to convince him that his screen saver was NOT pornographic. (it had pictures of his face flashing across the screen)

The next day (11 am) was the raquetball tournament!!! Everyone showed up who said they'd come except Brad and Kailyn. Their loss. Dave won, but it was really fun. Maybe again next year, we'll see.

Night two was a lot better...I waltzed with Colin, Randy, Becker and Adam. Then it was on to the polka floor, and finally I had the chance to slow dance with James and Justin. :) These trombone guys can really dance, its pretty sweet. My favorite part of the night was getting the chance to sit in with Jazz 1. Yeah yeah, it was for one tune, and it was the easiest one they could find, but it made me happy anyways. Hopefully someday....:) After the ball it was off to Errin's for a pretty good party, and then back to the dorm for some quality boyfriend time. :)

Great weekend...can't wait for next year!!!!!!!

Rachel

today was incredible. played a great routine with a great trombonist, had a really good lesson, and then a decent concert. Following the concert we went to Buffalo Wild Wings...my first time there. Among the topics of discussion were how Nobu achieved tenure at EC by eating spicy buffalo wild wings, past band/bone choir trips, and when the Ostranders are going to start a family.

It was just a great night, with some really sweet people.

goodnight. :)

today is one of those up and down days. Mostly up, but then it kind of went down when I took a look at all the scales I need to learn for proficiency. After awhile the boyfriend came around and kind of kicked my ass about getting those done. Makes sense I guess.

It was sunny and beautiful out again today. Yay. I played a lot of trombone today, its starting to feel good again. It will come. :)

I hope all of you are having pleasant lives as well.

Goodnight!

Rachel

So I'm here in Minnesota right now...sittin here in Becker's house in Apple Valley. Life is pretty sweet...except for trombone. Its a lil frustrating how I don't feel any desire to practice lately....in fact its flat out frightening. Its not like I think I'm really great and dont' need to practice or something. I just don't want to go downstairs and put that mouthpiece to my lips. Kinda weird, hope this passes soon.

Rehearsal at 1:00 today and then a 3 hour Easter vigil tonight. whooo!!!!

Thats about it...I've just spent lots of time over the past 2 days relaxing and catching up on sleep. :P

See ya...and Happy Easter to everyone!!!

I apologize. I've decided that my previous post was too harsh and too judgemental. Not ALL guys are assholes and superficial, just a lot of them. There are some really great guys out there, and its really not a fair thing to say that ALL guys are jerks. So I apologize to the 'non-jerk/non-superficial' guys out there reading this. Nuff said.

School is sweet...getting ready for my Easter gig. Rode up to Minnesota with Paul...he's so much easier to talk to than I initially thought. Guess you can't judge people based on age/appearance.

Spent a lot of time on trombone, had a good lesson. I didn't play the solo well, but Ostrander said my rhythm was perfect, and thats a great compliment to get. So now I just have to get better at all the other stuff and I'll be all set. :)

Hmmm...not much else.

trombone = good
finances = getting better
boyfriend = awesome
heather(s) = great friends
raquetball = sweetness (there will be a tournament btw...ask for details)
work = sucks
Chip Valley = not that great, but it was definately fun to play in an orchestra again
new trombone = NEXT WEEK!!!

much love,

Rachel

Last night I realized (for the first time actually) how fucking superficial guys are. Like ALL guys. And not just the one's you'd expect to be either...oh no, ALL of them. Its sad, because they can really (unintentionally AND intentionally) make girls (like myself) feel like shit.

Have a great day.

this weekend was great. Besides playing in the musical. I liked it, but it took up all my practice time and killed my chops. I guess I'll have to get better with the endurance thing before summertime.

This afternoon/evening Becker's parents took us out to dinner at the Olive Garden. It was really really nice. I had the chance to get to know them a bit, and they were able to find out more about the person dating their only son. :P It was nice.

Then, went to Colin's dress rehearsal for his recital. I really really feel awful that I can't go. I mean, how often do you get to hear someone so good playing solos and jazz all in one sitting? As much as I need the cash for this Easter gig, its almost not worth it for the things I'm missing. :
Like I said the weekend was great, it was nice to spend some time with people...the pit party on Thursday night was AWESOME. Seeing Kelly Heidel drunk for the first time was a real treat. :P Things got a bit out of hand when the "Catchphrase" game got a little competitive, but all in all it was a great time.

Time for bed, long week ahead of me...Easter at the Beckers' and picnics w/the ladies! It's gonna be good. (yep, 70 degrees tomorrow!!!)

Rachel

its so nice outside. I hope I get off work early to enjoy it. Thats all. :)

this week has been hell. not gonna lie, its been awful. Between screwed up Easter gigs (I think I have it all straightened out now), bombed political science exams, and angry trombonists because I got the Vallefair gig its just hard. I wish life would just be simple and stuff. That'd be really nice.

Can't wait to take a break from all this for Easter, but its gonna be tough. I need to drive all the way to Minnesota (prolly on Wednesday) to rehearse for this Easter gig. UGH!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, after this pit orchestra thing is done life will be better. It'll be nice to get away from the long rehearsals n stuff. I enjoyed it, now I'm ready to perform and get it out of the way. God, I hope that rehearsal for easter isn't on Wednesday, I SO want to play in Colin's recital!!! :\ We'll see.

Ummm....in other news. (aka GOOD NEWS) I just got my check today for my new trombone!!! Can't tell you how happy I was to finally get it. Looks like the total on the horn will be $2,461.60. Its not all quite covered in my loan, I'll have to pay $161.60 outta pocket, but it will be here potentially next week already! (WHOOT!!!!!) So thats the great news of the week. (of course Valleyfair was great news too) :D

Time to get sleep, Aural and Written Theory exams are tomorrow. Oh joy. I hope I do well. :
Goodnight,

Love,
Rachel
